SMS Terms & Messaging Policy

Queen City Volunteer Connect (QCVC) — qcvc.org

Effective Date: June 1, 2026

§ 01

Service Description

Queen City Volunteer Connect (QCVC) is a volunteer-hours tracking platform serving high school students in the Charlotte, NC area. Students can discover and sign up for volunteer opportunities from local employers and nonprofits, submit completed service hours, and receive official PDF verification letters.

Operated by Queen City Volunteer Connect at qcvc.org. Contact: queencityvc@gmail.com.

§ 02

Use Case & Message Types

QCVC uses SMS messaging for two specific, limited purposes. No promotional or marketing messages are sent.

A. One-Time Verification Codes (OTP / 2FA)

When a user enters their phone number and requests a sign-in code, a single SMS containing a 6-digit one-time passcode is sent for identity verification. The code expires after a short window.

Example

Your Queen City Volunteer Connect (QCVC) verification code is 847392. Valid for 10 minutes. Do not share this code with anyone.

B. Administrator-Initiated Invitation Messages

Admins may send a one-time SMS invitation to new employer organization representatives or prospective platform administrators. These messages are sent only to individuals with a pre-existing relationship with QCVC. Each invitation is sent once and contains secure onboarding instructions.

Example (Employer)

You've been invited to join Queen City Volunteer Connect (QCVC) as an employer partner. Open the QCVC app and use your invitation code to get started. Reply STOP to opt out. Msg & data rates may apply.
§ 03

Opt-In & Consent

Consent to receive SMS messages is obtained directly and explicitly before any message is sent.

For Verification Codes

A user opts in on the QCVC sign-in screen by entering their mobile phone number and checking a consent checkbox that appears directly below the phone number field. The checkbox is unchecked by default, and the “Send Code” button is disabled until the user checks it. The checkbox is labeled with the following consent language:

I agree to receive a one-time SMS verification code from Queen City Volunteer Connect at the number provided. Msg & data rates may apply. Msg frequency varies. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. See our SMS Terms and Privacy Policy.

No SMS message is sent unless the user has affirmatively checked this box and then tapped “Send Code.” This consent is specific to SMS verification messages and is collected separately from acceptance of our Terms or Privacy Policy.

The screenshots below show the actual opt-in flow in the QCVC app:

QCVC sign-in screen before consent: SMS consent checkbox unchecked and Send Code button disabled.
Before consent — checkbox unchecked, “Send Code” disabled.
QCVC sign-in screen after consent: SMS consent checkbox checked and Send Code button enabled.
After consent — checkbox checked, “Send Code” enabled.

For Invitations

Invitations are sent only to individuals who have proactively contacted QCVC or were referred by an existing partner. The SMS includes STOP instructions. Recipients may reply STOP or simply ignore the message.

No Third-Party Opt-In Sharing

QCVC does not purchase phone number lists, does not obtain consent via third-party websites, and does not share opt-in data with other organizations. All consent is collected directly through QCVC's own application.

§ 04

Message Frequency

Verification codes are sent on-demand only when a user taps “Send Code.” Frequency is entirely user-controlled.

Invitation messages are sent at most once per recipient per invitation event, and only to contacts not yet on the platform.

QCVC does not send recurring messages, newsletters, promotions, or any other scheduled communications via SMS.

§ 05

How to Opt Out

Reply STOP to any QCVC message. After opting out:

  • A confirmation of removal is sent
  • No further SMS will be sent from QCVC
  • Opting out of verification codes will prevent phone-based sign-in

To re-enable SMS, reply START or email queencityvc@gmail.com.

§ 06

Help

Reply HELP to any QCVC text message for assistance information, including contact email and a link to this page. Direct contact is also available at queencityvc@gmail.com.

§ 07

Message & Data Rates

QCVC does not charge for SMS messages. However, message and data rates may apply depending on your wireless carrier and plan. QCVC is not responsible for any charges imposed by your carrier. Contact your carrier for details about your messaging plan.

§ 08

Privacy & Phone Number Use

Phone numbers are used solely for authentication and platform communication as described in this document.

  • Student phone numbers are never shared with employers
  • Numbers are not sold, rented, or shared with third-party marketers
  • Phone numbers are stored securely and are not included in public-facing data

See our full Privacy Policy for complete details.

§ 09
